19th Canyon de Chelly
Where
When
A maze of red sheer-walled canyons with looming cliffs and hidden caves is home to the Navajo Nation and Canyon de Chelly ("de-SHAY") National Monument. The canyon's spiritual significance will be explained by a Navajo guide as you wind through the two branches of the canyon. One of the trail's highlights is the towering 850-foot monolith of Spider Rock. While the canyon walls are sheer cliffs, the bottom of the canyon is flat and sandy. There are over 2,700 archeological sites, including cliff dwellings, pictographs, and petroglyphs. Pets are not allowed in the canyon.
Tow hooks mandatory.
